In a momentous declaration at a press conference on Thursday, November 14, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam unveiled that attorney Gavin Glover is slated to assume the role of the next Attorney General within the Alliance of Change government. Ramgoolam underscored that the chosen candidate must possess extensive legal expertise and a minimum of 15 years of bar experience, qualities that Glover reportedly embodies.
However, due to ongoing legal obligations, Glover’s assumption of office will be postponed. He has committed to representing Bernard Maigrot in his appeal against a 15-year prison sentence for the murder of fashion designer Vanessa Lagesse. Consequently, Glover will only be available to assume his new position after November 29.
During this interim period, Prime Minister Ramgoolam announced the appointment of an acting Attorney General. This decision showcases the Alliance of Change’s deliberate choice to bring in a legal professional with substantial experience to lead the Attorney General’s office.
