Fateemah Noor Dogansoy fell victim to malfunctioning of escalator in Grand-Baie La Croisette on Saturday, November 23 when a step of the escalator in the shopping center collapsed. As a consequence, her right leg had to be amputated to save her life.

She is currently being shifted to India via Air Vistara so that her remaining leg can be saved and she can get better treatment. Two days ago, the newly elected prime minister Navin Ramgoolam and his wife Veena accompanied her to the plane to ensure she is able to depart safely.

Several political figures have come forward to save her and offer money to help with her surgery.

Labour MP Ehsan Juman was the first to arrive.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Mahend Gungapersad, accompanied by MPs Nitish Beejan and Ram Etwareea, visited Fateemah and her family at the Clinique du Nord. “We extend our hearts to the family of Fateemah Noor Dogansoy and pray for her health and recovery ,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

Anil Bachoo, Minister of Health, also extended his support to Fateemah’s family along with MP Ehsan Juman and said that everything possible would be done to help the family. Dr. Farhad Aumeer, also present at the scene, explained that the victim had suffered trauma.
