Tragically, three individuals lost their lives on our roads on Monday, February 3. In Providence, Quartier-Militaire, at approximately 7:25 p.m., a 30-year-old resident of Montagne-Blanche and his passenger on a motorcycle were fatally injured after being struck head-on by a drunken police officer. The officer, who is part of the Central Investigation Division (CID) of Moka, was overtaking another vehicle when the devastating collision occurred.
Earlier that same afternoon, another violent accident took place in Deep River, Olivia. A motorcyclist died instantly after the rider attempted to navigate a high-speed turn, becoming unable to control the bike as the road was obstructed.
As of Tuesday morning, the latest police reports indicate that the death toll for this year has now reached 16.
