Yesterday afternoon, the body of a 17-year-old college student was found in a basin in Moka. The young man had gone to the location with friends without informing his parents. According to the police, the group had gone there to “relax a little” during the busy third quarter review period.
Reportedly, the victim decided to take a dip to cool off but soon found himself in distress and started to sink. Despite the efforts of his friends, they were unable to assist him and immediately called the police emergency number. Rescue teams arrived promptly and pulled the young man from the water. Upon examination by a SAMU doctor at the scene, it was tragically confirmed that the victim had passed away. His body was then transported to the Jeetoo Hospital morgue for further examination through an autopsy.
The police have questioned the friends, who clarified that they did not anticipate the young man would encounter trouble in the water. They also stated that he had not encountered any issues with anyone earlier in the day. At this stage, the authorities are treating the incident as a drowning and have ruled out the possibility of foul play. The teenager’s belongings found on the basin’s banks have been confiscated as part of the investigation.
An ongoing inquiry seeks to understand the circumstances leading to this tragic event. The friends of the college student will undergo further questioning as the investigation progresses.
Our deepest sympathies for his family and friends.
