Introduction
The town of Rose Hill is the capital of Lower Plaines Wilhelm’s and the 3rd largest town in Mauritius. The town was originally 2 separate communities, Beau Bassin & Rose Hill, but now both have merged into one single town. It is a major commercial centre apart from Port Louis and Eben and also is the largest residential town.
History
Rose Hill came into limelight in the eighteenth century because of the disease of malaria which had widely spread in Port Louis. During this period many people migrated to Rose Hill and Beau Bassin in search of a cooler place where they could find fewer mosquitoes.
Places of Interest
The Cascadelle View Point and the Balfour Gardens are one the two main places of interest in the town of Rose Hill. You will get to see some varied collections of plants and flowers in the Balfour garden.
Another important attraction of the town is the beautiful Plaza; it is basically the town hall which now serves as marriage hall and theater. Le Plaza has become an important landmark of the cultural life of the island. Plays, concerts and operas are regularly held within its walls.
Rose Hill also has a very popular art gallery, Max Boulle which draws a lot of tourists as well..
Near to Rose Hill, there is one another biggest residential hub – Quatre Bornes which is known for its unique and distinctive shopping centers.
The backstreets of Beau-Bassin have some beautifully preserved colonial homes near the Balfour Gardens from where you can see the beautiful view of the Moka Mountains, ravines and waterfalls.

Rose Hill is famous for its Dhol Puri center called as Chez Dewa which is not to be missed. People from across Mauritius come to have dhol puris here and even take them for their friends as well.
