A major road accident occurred on the morning of Sunday, July 20, on Royal Road in Camp-Ithier, involving four vehicles and a cyclist. Several individuals were injured, including one man who is in critical condition.

According to the Flacq police, the collision took place around 10:15 a.m., prompting a swift emergency response. The vehicles involved included two cars, a van, a pickup truck, and a bicycle.

The cyclist, a 65-year-old man, was violently thrown to the ground during the impact. He was initially taken to Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital by the SAMU and later transferred to SSRN Hospital for further medical evaluation. Given the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently admitted to the intensive care unit at SAJ Hospital and placed on respiratory support. His condition remains critical.

Three passengers from one of the vehicles were also injured. Two were admitted to SAJ Hospital for observation, while the third was treated and discharged.

One of the drivers involved, a 61-year-old man, was taken into custody at the Flacq police station as part of the ongoing investigation. Breathalyzer tests were conducted on all drivers involved and all returned negative results.

Initial reports suggest that one of the vehicles struck a roadside pole and split in two due to the force of the collision. The accident caused significant property damage.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the incident.
