A joint operation conducted by the Anti-Drug & Smuggling Unit (Adsu) of Plaisance with agents of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (Cans) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority, captured drugs hidden in an Air Mauritius flight worth Rs 90 million. On July 18, in the early evening, they invested an Air Mauritius MK 852 plane, from South Africa, which had just landed at Plaisance airport.

The officers carried out a thorough search of the air craft, during which they discovered packages weighing 6.2 kilos in the toilet, suspected of being heroin. Estimated at Rs 90 million, the merchandise was immediately seized.

After starting an investigation, Adsu officers placed two employees of the Airmate company, who operate as attendants, in arrest. During their interrogation, they confessed to being involved in this case. This Monday, they were provisionally charged with drug trafficking before the Mahébourg court.

The investigation of the anti-drug brigade continues.

Lately, Mauritius has been in limelight for drug trafficking, last month 2 Britishers were arrested for getting drugs into Mauritius.
