Since Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Union Park, Dave Kissoondoyal has been on hunger strike to protest against pension reform, providing for the gradual raising of the age of eligibility for old-age pension from 60 to 65. The former member of the Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM) says he hopes that this action will lead the government to review its position.
According to him, the “Income Support” of Rs 10,000 offered to people over 60 under certain conditions can in no way be considered equivalent to a pension. He considers this decision unfair to citizens over the age of sixty.
