On October 3, 2025, Gunshyam Jeetun, company director, had his three-month prison sentence commuted to 90 hours of community work. This resident of Montagne-Longue had offered a bribe of Rs 200 to a police officer to avoid a ticket. On July 4, 2025, Magistrate Alvin Joypaul handed down a guilty verdict against the director, based on the confessions of the latter who acknowledged in his testimony that he had given the Rs 200 to the police officer to avoid the ticket.

During the arguments around the sentence, the accused apologized and said that that day he had committed an “error of judgment”, explaining that he had acted in panic. The Court had also noted that he had a clean criminal record. On August 8, 2025, Gunshyam Jeetun was initially sentenced to three months in prison. However, the FCD had suspended the execution of the sentence pending a social investigation to determine whether he could carry out community work. Following a favorable report, the prison sentence was commuted to 90 hours of social work. He must appear before the court again on December 19, 2025.

In this case, the 54-year-old company director pleaded not guilty to the FCD, accused of “bribery of public official”. He was accused of offering a bribe of Rs 200 to a corporal of the Divisional Supporting Unit (DSU) of Port-Louis Nord on March 28, 2014 to avoid a ticket.
