Torrential rain warning for Mauritius issued at 08h00 on Wednesday 30 April 2025.

A torrential rain warning is in force in Mauritius.

Moderate to, at times, heavy showers are still being observed, especially over the Central Plateau and over the Southern and the Eastern sectors of the island.
The showers are expected to continue during the day and may be accompanied by thunderstorms.

The highest rainfall recorded over the last 12 hours till 07h00 are as follows:

Grand Bassin: 135.6 mm
Midlands: 105.0 mm
Wooton: 103.9 mm
Mare aux Vacoas: 96.3 mm
Vacoas: 91.1 mm
Rose Belle: 90.4 mm

The heavy rainfall may cause flooding in several places around the island.

Some rivers and watercourses are likely to be flooded. There will also be water accumulation and fog patches in several regions.

The public is advised to:
1. Remain in safe places and avoid open areas, hikings, sea ventures and sheltering under trees during thunderstorms.
2. Avoid places prone to water accumulation, river banks and other water courses.
3. Be very cautious on the roads due to reduced visibility in showers and mainly due to fog.

No update yet on closure of schools in Mauritius due to torrential rains, so keep checking the status with the school to know if they are open or not.
